Dr Kate McCarthy

Policy and Advocacy Officer

Dr Kate McCarthy (she/her), Policy and Advocacy officer (ISTR), is a lecturer in Drama at South East Technological University. She holds a BA in Drama and Theatre Studies and English, and an MA in Drama and Theatre Studies, focusing on devising theatre, from University College Cork. She undertook her PhD in drama education and applied theatre at the School of Education, Trinity College Dublin. Recent publications include co-authored chapters in Active Speech: Critical Perspectives on Teresa Deevy (forthcoming 2024), a collection which she is co-editing, Perspectives on the Teaching of Secondary English (2023),  Legacies of the Magdalen Laundries: Commemoration, Gender and Systems of Abuse (2021), The Golden Thread: Irish Women Playwrights, Vol 1: 1716-1992 (2021), and The Palgrave Handbook of Contemporary Irish Theatre and Performance (2018). As a practitioner, Kate has facilitated, devised, and performed contemporary work ranging from youth theatre, live art, and site-responsive performance to drama and theatre education projects.
